Problem with starting Software Licencing service

Hi. I recently encountered a weird problem when my "Software Licensing" service has stopped and won't allow me to launch it!

It happened while I was using jv16 power tools to clear my registry and system settings (but all erroneus backups are already restored, that helped me with various other problems) and installing new drivers from HP to my software (fingerprint reader, bluetooth, Vista's KBs - "Windows Vista Essential Updates"). That way my control panel is not working (it's starting opening and closing without showing any icons after few seconds - it's "normal" when I have Software Licensing not running - happened to me before when the service was disabled - but I didn't have trouble turning it on again).

When I try to launch the service either through services.msc or net start SLsvc command, I have the error "Error 2: the system cannot find the file specified". I also used the registry file with default windows settings for Vista Home Premium from here, but the problem appeared before that.

I investigated the case, but found that the file exists under that path - all the entries - the one in service.msc, HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\slsvc and the one obtained through sc qc SLsvc are VALID...

When I try to manually open the service, it is closing instantly (not showing in task manager) and output nothing in cmd.exe.

Restarting system doesn't seem to help. I didn't tried doing it in safe mode yet (but I don't really thing it'll help).

All the required services to run Software Licensing are set to automatic and are running.

All the services that need Software Licensing are outputting error 1068.

My operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium, HP's preinstalled OEM (with a lot of modifications/custom programs/settings/new driver sinstalled. My system language is Polish (Poland).

My laptop model is HP Pavilion dv5 1070ew

I was using the newest jv16 power tools (1.9.0.580), 30-day trial (but it outputed some errors before - even if previous versions was working properly.

Some information about Software Licensing can be found here and seems to be reliable.

Well, I came in mind that I could post the registry entry related to my SLsvn service. I really think that it can be related with it, especially if it was altered twice - both from backup of jv16 and the default settings from speedyvista.

Well, I finally found the resolve to this problem: as I thoguth it was an registry issue, caused by the jv16 Power Tools probably. I found finally the solution over the internet, even if it was addressed to 64-bit versions of Windows (mine's x32), the registry tweak found here (click on Fix for ‘Software Licensing service Has Stopped’ on some Vista 64bit systems helped.
