Microsoft Access 2003

I am working on a database that has a table called main Table. I had 187 purchase orders that I needed to import as workorders. I created my import file in excel checking to make sure that everything was correct and there was nothing there to cause a problem. The file was imported with no problems. However, my primary key which is an auto number (called workordernumber) went from the last auto number of 7000 to an 8 digit number. What happened and how can I fix this problem, so that I can put in workorders starting with 7001?
