reg file for file association

i need to create a reg file to associate a file type with a program how do i do it

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\somename\shell\open\command]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\somename\DefaultIcon]
@="\"Driveletter:\\folder\\executable.exe\" \"%1\""

; 0 respresents the first icon in the file. change as needed
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\somename\DefaultIcon]

somename represents??? the program ??

Whatever you want to name it. This will be the name of the key that has the commands, etc. The first part just defines it.

Here's a real world example...

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FlashVideo\DefaultIcon]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FlashVideo\shell]
@="Open"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FlashVideo\shell\Open]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\FlashVideo\shell\Open\command]
@="D:\\Programs\\IrfanView\\i_view32.exe \"%1\""

ah i understand now it can be anything really or probably doesnt even need to be added but just there to make it all tidy

It has to be added. Like in my real world example, the .flv key points to FlashVideo. It then looks in the FlashVideo key for the commands, etc.

worked out that if that reg file exists i only have to change the open command and the icon if i want the icon changed
