Installing a Component post installation from Lite install

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I apologize if I am asking a question that has been asked before. I tried using the search function, but considering the fact that I really dont know how to word what I need, it was pretty useless (my ignorance is at fault of course)

Anyway i installed a version of windows 7 lite and after installing it I realized that I wanted to have a japanese keyboard IME. Well that was one of the things taken out in the lite package. So I was trying to research how to install a single, if possible, keyboard. So does anyone know, or do i need to just reinstall using a full installation?

Thanks

moku

by the way i am currently downloading a language pack now, i dont think it will work but i figured its worth a try. Will post results when i wake up and install it.

I neglected to mention that this install is on a virtual machine, vmk. I hope that doesnt make a difference, but i am guessing that it does.

Hopefully someone can help because the mui install failed.

Note that removing a component with vLite or nLite is not the same as removal from within Windows - with xLite, the component is literally *removed* from the install image. You can't add components back once you've removed them - you'll have to re-vLite your original Full installation and add the components back that you want to keep, then make a new image and install from it.

This is why you'll always find people asking this question here, and the rest of us always telling you to be sure of what you're removing before you install, *just in case* you might want that feature in the future because they can't just be hacked back in (especially in Vista and Win7).
