brunces Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 (edited) Friends,Hello! Please, I'm in need of some help here. I'm trying to create a lite Windows Vista version on my own, but every time I do it, after installing it, I can't get the "Network and Sharing Center" to work out, I mean, it is simply missing on the operating system. This way, I can't search for any wireless networks available for me to get connected. So, I've decided to follow this tutorial I've found on internet, but there are a few different details between vLite options and the tutorial itself.About the tutorial (PDF):Guide to vLite 1.2 (January 1st, 2009) - Loyal Windows & vLite fan, Randomness (MSFN Boards)About vLite:I am using vLite v1.2 Final (last version available for download). WAIK is also properly installed.About Windows Vista:I have an original DVD which came with my new laptop, but it is in English. So, I decided to download a full copy of Windows Vista DVD in Portuguese (PT-BR), my native language, with SP1 included. After selecting the folder for the Windows installation files, I select "Windows Vista ULTIMATE" on the next little window. Then, I have:Operating system: Windows Vista ULTIMATEDescription: Windows Vista UltimateArchitecture: 32-bitVersion: 6.0.6001.18000------------------------------------------------------On the "Task Selection" screen, I have:Checked:Integration, Components, Tweaks, Unattended setup, Bootable ISO.Unchecked:Enable before applyObs.: According the tutorial, I should leave "Service Pack Slipstream" unchecked, but this item simply doesn't appear on the list. I don't know why. Anything wrong?------------------------------------------------------On the "Compatibility" screen, I have:Under FeaturesChecked:Aero Glass, File and printer sharing (Server), Internet Explorer, Internet Information Services (IIS), Recommended, Scanners and Cameras, Windows Faz and Scan, Windows Update.Unchecked:System RestoreUnder ApplicationsChecked:ACDSee / XNView, DriveimageXML, DVD Treasury, Hauppauge WinTV, KMPlayer, MediaPortal, Paint.NET, Perfect World Client, Zoom Player.Unchecked:Halo 2, Logitech Setpoint.Obs.: Last time I tried, I left everything UNCHECKED. Then, some hidden components appeared on the "Components List", but some were still missing.------------------------------------------------------On the "Components List" screen, according to the tutorial, there are some differences:Accessories: OK.Drivers: OK.Hardware Support:- "Fax Support" appears on vLite list, but it is missing on the tutorial.- "WLAN Support" appears on the tutorial, but it is missing on the list.Languages: OK.Multimedia: OK.Network:- "MSN Installer" appears on the tutorial, but it is missing on vLite list.- "Network and Sharing Center" appears on the tutorial, but it is missing on vLite list.- "Windows Firewall" appears on the tutorial, but it is missing on vLite list.Services:- "ActiveX Installer Service" appears on vLite list, but is missing on the tutorial.- "Internet Connection Sharing" appears on the tutorial, but it is missing on vLite list.- "Network Location Awareness (NLA)" appears on the tutorial, but it is missing on vLite list.- "Offline files" appears on vLite list, but is missing on the tutorial.- "Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol (SSTP)" appears on vLite list, but is missing on the tutorial.- "BitLocker Drive Encryption" appears on vLite list, but is missing on the tutorial.- "Microsoft Client for NFS" appears on vLite list, but is missing on the tutorial.- "Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA)" appears on vLite list, but is missing on the tutorial.- "Windows Ultimate Extras" appears on vLite list, but is missing on the tutorial.------------------------------------------------------Some things may be different because of the Windows Vista version, language and perhaps the SP1 already included. I don't know. But why don't things like "Network and Sharing Center" or "Windows Firewall" appear on the list? These are native options. Detail: if I install the full Windows version (non-vLited), everything works fine, but it is too heavy for my laptop.Well, I hope you can help me here, with this missing items, especially "Network and Sharing Center". I really need it.Thank you for your attention, guys.brunces Edited April 1, 2009 by brunces
brunces Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 Guys,I've tested and now I know that for the "Network and Sharing Center" to work properly, Services > Diagnostics can't be removed (neither Network related components, of course).I hope the tip is useful. brunces
