wYlD/HoRSes Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Hello, I am new and have a question that I hope someone can help me with.I bought a serial data cable to hook my phone up to my Vista OS. The computer does not recognize it. I have called the manufacturer (Samsung) they told me that I have the correct cable. I've called the manufacturer of my computer, they were no help - told me to use a different computer.I have installed the drivers, with no luck. What I am truely trying to do is find out if I can hook this up to be recognized as a device with removable storage, and I'll tell you why.My phone had messages on it that contained important work information, my son played with my phone and now they are gone. I was going to use a restore software to get the messages back, but the computer won't recognize the data cable.Any suggestions?Thank you!
Kotuku Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) Normally each cellphone has a proprietary cable and they will have a data suite program so you can connect and do things on your phone. I am assuming a Samsung phone, so their web site should have a data suite to install on your computer? If so, when connecting the cable and turning the phone on should make a connection. You should be able to open COMPUTER from the Orb Start menu and see your phone as a storage device.Would the messages etc have been stored on a removable card in the cellphone? If it is the internal memory, then each entry that is now getting written to the memory has a chance of overwriting the deleted messages. If they were on a removable memory card, remove that now and plug it into a reader slot on a laptop and perform the recovery directI don't like your chances though. Is it not possible to get whoever sent the messages to resend them, they should be in their OUT box.Where did you bury your son?? <smile> Edited March 26, 2009 by Kotuku
wYlD/HoRSes Posted March 26, 2009 Author Posted March 26, 2009 Hello, and I thank you for your very quick response!Well - there is a little problem with the install of the driver - when talking to Samsung today, they said yes, I have the correct Samsung cable - but the driver isn't for Vista. They told me to use a different computer (like everyone has a few different ones around their house). I don't.The thing is, I would think that when I hook up the cable that it could be recognized on it's own. I guess I'm wrong, and will have to find another computer somewhere.I'm not sure what you were talking about with the reader slot on a laptop - can you explain? Thank you!
