A basic Components Removal Query

Recommended Posts

Looking to create a more up-to-date WinXP Pro CD as the most up-to-date one i have at the mo is SP2. While i'm at it, i was thinking i'd customize it for myself

Just a query about the components removal section of nLite that i've often wondered but never asked or read about.

When removing any of these components, it obviously

-a- frees up space on the CD to be burned

but does it ALSO

-b- when you finally get round to installing it on a machine, does it allow Windows to run faster if you remove a lot of components? Or not? Or even, if it does, does it make barely any difference whatsoever?

As if it doesn't speed up the day-to-day running of Windows, then i may as well not bother removing anything.

Kev_83, this is a tough question to give a definitive answer. Others will have different opinions, but I think Windows will run faster, just not much. Removing components will reduce the size of the CD and HDD files and reduce the time required to install. Stopping/removing services may yield more speed benefit as well as some tweaks. You can spend some time looking at Black Viper's site to decide which services. Enjoy, John.

Thanks John.

I've already noticed the quicker install speed due to nLiting my dad's copy of WinXP. All the time i've been doing this though, i've never found out if it's comparable to trying to speed up your cars 0-60 time by taking off the wing mirrors for example.

I tried Black Vipers site one time & screwed up WinXP lol. I think, as a TOTAL computer novice, is hould stay away from that.

Thanks for the reply though.
