ViperBoy Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 If I attempt to integrate any hotfixes along with the many other option changes and package removals, vlite will crash during the final stage. Integrating hotfixes alone works fine as do all the other changes alone. Only the combination fails. I am using Fox's update pack to collect updates, but I tried with several subsets of patches, including just the oldest one or two critical updates and it still crashes. I attached my last session file to help reproduce the problem. I'm using Vista Ultimate 32 and attempting to modify an Ultimate 32 source that includes the official sp1 built in directly from MSDNTIALast_Session.iniLast_Session_u.ini
ViperBoy Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 I just downgraded to 1.1.6 and vlite completed a combined hotfix slipstream and component removal so this is only a 1.2 bug. I also got the infinite reboot loop issue with 1.2 (no integrated hotfixes) and so will try this 1.1.6 to see if that goes away next. Install #10+ coming up...
Tomorrow Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 In order to debug possible problems i build my vLited Vista editions the following way:Step1 - Clean Vista+SP1+My language pack integrated(Estonian).I unpack the ISO.And with vlite add only Hotfixes and configure services and tweaks from vlite. Then rebiuld and make temp iso 1.Step2 - I unpack temp iso 1,remove components and rebuild image +make temp iso 2.Step3 - I unpack the temp iso 2 and mount install.wim with gimagex to do some in-depht tweaking.Once ready i unmount wim and add drivers with vlite.I rebiuld and remake iso to be test iso 1.Step4 - I mount test iso 1 with VirtualPC(Virtualbox lately) and do some 45min run to see if install goes well and there are no significant problems. If theres not then i will burn this iso to DVD and use as my next build for 1-2 months. If there are significant problems(reboot loop etc) then i have previous temp iso 1 & 2 to fall back for debugging purposes. If im confident that i have found the culprit i make nessesary steps and remake it to test iso 2.I know it takes a lot of time but its the most foolproof way IMO
ViperBoy Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 OK - very wierd. I tried vlite on a fresh 32 bit install and no crashes during processing - must be some issue with my older Vista install that has been used for 8-10 months. I also went back to 1.1.6 and no infinite loop after downloading vista updatesHowever, I built a new 64 bit install so that I could then slipstream hotfixes (not allowed under the 32 OS), but hotfix integration crashes vlite (1.1.6 and 1.2) immediately. That was on a clean system that I even reinstalled with a different power supply and memory - same one that the 32 bit version worked fine on. I also tried using both .msu and extracted .cab updates w/o luck.Has anyone gotten 64 bit hotfix integration working?
codevolunt Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Just tried to integrate downloaded hotfixes into a Vista 64 Business install using vLite 1.2, no problems reported with the Integration, but after installing the OS, and then running Win Update, the list of Updates (about 44 in number) include those that should have been integrated?? Anyone else had the same problem?I used ctUpdate to download the Hotfixes in .cab and .msu format. The FAQs were in German(!) so perhaps I downloaded the wrong version! Other txt files in the installation folder were in English so perhaps not...At present I have not gone down the removal of WinSxS folder road, but am hoping that by integrating all hotfixes I won't get a repeat of a recent experience of the winsxs folder growing by approx 5GB(!) after the installation of the above mentioned 44 updates!Suggestions welcome.
