Okay, first post, ever

Back in December I got a virus/spyware which was really ticking me off so I tried everything I could think of like CMD prompt deleting it, Safe Mode, current antivirus etc.

one of the spectacular techniques I used was deleting files that had just recently been used/made (horrible idea I know), after that I tried to do a bunch of updates to my system to see if that would fix it (I ended up downloading updates for main comp AND I also got the brilliant idea of updating other non-vital things like Media Center) but anyway that didn't work so I ended up getting a new Antivirus which killed it but in my attempt to seek and destroy I had some collateral damage. :}

Now my Media Center (2005 I think)doesn't work... it will open but other than that I just get alot of error messages which I will now include.

1. I open up main program

/Media Center was unable to open messenger.

/Make sure Windows messenger is installed on your computer.

[no big deal so far]

2. Click on My TV

get message

\some of the files needed to play radio or video are missing or corrupt.

\Media Center component registration may have failed.

[okay...thats probably not good]

3. Click on Live TV

get message

/application has generated an exception that could not be handled

/

/process id=0x108c (4236), Thread id=0x1090(4240)

[that sucks...]

4. Click {Attempt to repair}

get message

\Registered JIT debugger is not available. An attempt to launch JIT debugger with the following command resulted

\ in an error code of 0x2(2). Please check computer settings.

\cordbg.exe !a 0x108c

[...]

5. abort or at this point it generates a crash report

okay possible clue

I isolated a date from one of the error report files that may be useful

I would suggest reinstalling Windows Media Center Edition if you have the recovery discs.

There is just too much broken and there isnt a really easy way to repair the components.

Alternatively you could upgrade to Vista Home Premium or Ultimate.

Or download the Windows 7 Beta 1, which is the Ultimate edition and includes the latest Media Center.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7...a-download.aspx

There's already an update for it:

Recovery Disks would have been provided by the OEM for example Dell or HP. Media Center 2005 discs are available retail but not for download.

I realized you could try installing MCE 2005 Update Pack 2 to see if that repairs the problems.

http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/1...B900325-usa.exe

Again I would suggest upgrading the OS if your machine supports it, MCE has been much improved.
