dluser2468 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Okay, first post, everBack in December I got a virus/spyware which was really ticking me off so I tried everything I could think of like CMD prompt deleting it, Safe Mode, current antivirus etc.one of the spectacular techniques I used was deleting files that had just recently been used/made (horrible idea I know), after that I tried to do a bunch of updates to my system to see if that would fix it (I ended up downloading updates for main comp AND I also got the brilliant idea of updating other non-vital things like Media Center) but anyway that didn't work so I ended up getting a new Antivirus which killed it but in my attempt to seek and destroy I had some collateral damage. Now my Media Center (2005 I think)doesn't work... it will open but other than that I just get alot of error messages which I will now include.1. I open up main program/Media Center was unable to open messenger./Make sure Windows messenger is installed on your computer.[no big deal so far]2. Click on My TVget message\some of the files needed to play radio or video are missing or corrupt. \Media Center component registration may have failed.[okay...thats probably not good]3. Click on Live TVget message/application has generated an exception that could not be handled//process id=0x108c (4236), Thread id=0x1090(4240)[that sucks...]4. Click {Attempt to repair}get message\Registered JIT debugger is not available. An attempt to launch JIT debugger with the following command resulted\ in an error code of 0x2(2). Please check computer settings.\cordbg.exe !a 0x108c[...]5. abort or at this point it generates a crash reportokay possible clueI isolated a date from one of the error report files that may be usefulInitialize setup: MedCtrOC.DLL 12/13/08 22:25:14[freestyle - OC_PREINITIALIZE] - complete[freestyle - OC_INIT_COMPONENT]OnOcInitComponent enterOnOcInitComponent leave - complete[freestyle - OC_QUERY_STATE] - complete[freestyle - OC_CALC_DISK_SPACE]g_SetupInfo.ComponentInfHandle = 0x00176a18addComponent = TRUELeaving OnCalcDiskSpace... rc = 0x0000000d - complete[freestyle - OC_CLEANUP] - complete[freestyle - OC_PREINITIALIZE] - complete[freestyle - OC_INIT_COMPONENT]OnOcInitComponent enterOnOcInitComponent leave - complete[freestyle - OC_QUERY_STATE] - complete[freestyle - OC_CALC_DISK_SPACE]g_SetupInfo.ComponentInfHandle = 0x011c9d68addComponent = TRUELeaving OnCalcDiskSpace... rc = 0x0000000d - complete[freestyle - OC_CLEANUP] - completein UnRegister mode: 12/13/08 22:43:36------------------------------------------------------Opening inf file 'C:\WINDOWS\inf\mcdftreg.inf'SetupFindFirstLine failed: The section EHome_Self_Registering might be empty: 0xe0000102Unregister Services...-------------------------------KillProcess: Process (ehmsas.exe) was terminated.KillProcess: Process (ehshell.exe) could not be terminated because it was not running.KillProcess: Process (ehtray.exe) was terminated.Stopping service 'ehSched'Stopping service 'ehRecvr'Executing line "C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched /unregServer"Executing line "C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr /unregServer"Executing line "C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRec.exe /unregServer"Executing line "C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehmsas.exe /unregServer"Checking the status of ehSched and other processes-------------------------------------Service ehsched is runningSearching for process: 'ehrec.exe'.Process "ehrec.exe" is not running.Searching for process: 'ehtray.exe'.Process "ehtray.exe" is not running.Searching for process: 'ehshell.exe'.Process "ehshell.exe" is not running.Completed MedCtrOC (MedCtrRO.exe) in UnRegister mode: 12/13/08 22:43:55~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~[freestyle - OC_PREINITIALIZE] - complete[freestyle - OC_INIT_COMPONENT]OnOcInitComponent enterOnOcInitComponent leave - complete[freestyle - OC_QUERY_STATE] - complete[freestyle - OC_CALC_DISK_SPACE]g_SetupInfo.ComponentInfHandle = 0x0123cd40addComponent = TRUELeaving OnCalcDiskSpace... rc = 0x0000000d - complete[freestyle - OC_CLEANUP] - complete[freestyle - OC_PREINITIALIZE] - complete[freestyle - OC_INIT_COMPONENT]OnOcInitComponent enterOnOcInitComponent leave - complete[freestyle - OC_QUERY_STATE] - complete[freestyle - OC_CALC_DISK_SPACE]g_SetupInfo.ComponentInfHandle = 0x0013ebb0addComponent = TRUELeaving OnCalcDiskSpace... rc = 0x0000000d - complete[freestyle - OC_CLEANUP] - complete[freestyle - OC_PREINITIALIZE] - complete[freestyle - OC_INIT_COMPONENT]OnOcInitComponent enterOnOcInitComponent leave - complete[freestyle - OC_QUERY_STATE] - complete[freestyle - OC_CALC_DISK_SPACE]g_SetupInfo.ComponentInfHandle = 0x0128ad40addComponent = TRUELeaving OnCalcDiskSpace... rc = 0x0000000d - complete[freestyle - OC_CLEANUP] - complete[freestyle - OC_PREINITIALIZE] - complete[freestyle - OC_INIT_COMPONENT]OnOcInitComponent enterOnOcInitComponent leave - complete[freestyle - OC_QUERY_STATE] - complete[freestyle - OC_CALC_DISK_SPACE]g_SetupInfo.ComponentInfHandle = 0x0128ad40addComponent = TRUELeaving OnCalcDiskSpace... rc = 0x0000000d - complete[freestyle - OC_CLEANUP] - complete[freestyle - OC_PREINITIALIZE] - complete[freestyle - OC_INIT_COMPONENT]OnOcInitComponent enterOnOcInitComponent leave - complete[freestyle - OC_QUERY_STATE] - complete[freestyle - OC_CALC_DISK_SPACE]g_SetupInfo.ComponentInfHandle = 0x000fa688addComponent = TRUELeaving OnCalcDiskSpace... rc = 0x0000000d - complete[freestyle - OC_CLEANUP] - complete*I'm running a windows XP and could really use the help thanks anyone who reads this**also- my computer knowledge is somewhat limited so please explain exactly what I need to do
DigeratiPrime Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I would suggest reinstalling Windows Media Center Edition if you have the recovery discs. There is just too much broken and there isnt a really easy way to repair the components. Alternatively you could upgrade to Vista Home Premium or Ultimate. Or download the Windows 7 Beta 1, which is the Ultimate edition and includes the latest Media Center.http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7...a-download.aspxThere's already an update for it:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
dluser2468 Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 It's been a long time since I got this computerIs there somewhere I can get the recovery disks or download them?
DigeratiPrime Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Recovery Disks would have been provided by the OEM for example Dell or HP. Media Center 2005 discs are available retail but not for download.I realized you could try installing MCE 2005 Update Pack 2 to see if that repairs the problems.http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/1...B900325-usa.exeAgain I would suggest upgrading the OS if your machine supports it, MCE has been much improved.
