SP3 Slipstream corrupts install

Recommended Posts

I have an unattended install of XP Pro that has been working wonderfully. I slipstreamed firefox, thunderbird, and drivers from driverpacks BASE. This is all working at SP2. The second I slipstream SP3, when unpacking files right after creating the NTFS file system, a bunch of DLLs are missing, starting with CARDS.DLL and including about 30 more.

Has anyone run into this problem, or is there some kind of patch for it?

fissionman1, I see no such problems with a properly constructed CD. Did you slipstream SP3 on top of a slipstreamed SP2? If so, that will not work. In fact, running nLite more than once against the same source usually results in strange symptoms, such as you report. Please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Enjoy, John.

I found out what I did wrong. When applying a service pack, it asks if you would like to remove hotfixes, and apparently when you do that, it removes all of the files I was missing. If I make sure not to remove those hotfixes, the thing works fine. Problem solved.
