[Solved] Join windows 7 machine to domain

Featured Replies

It seems that at least for now this feature is not working... Anyone knows a workaround? I've tried adding the machine on the server again with no luck. The error that comes up is "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted". And yes, I am an administrator on the domain, so no privilege issues...

Done relevant settings as per bj-kaiser's post and still no joy... Vista Business connected OK by specifying domain\username when asked for credentials. Tried it on win 7 but no luck.

Just to mention that the issue has been solved... secpol.msc ---> Microsoft network client: Send unencrypted password to connect to third-party SMB servers set to enabled and voila :D

Ugh! Neanderthal Technology 4.0! Haven't touched that in years. Does Micro$oft still allow updates to it via Windows Updates?

yep windows update still works on NT4 though no new updates for it for a long time i think unlike nt5/5.1/5.2/6/6.1

I have a similar situation to you as far as Windows 7 and an NT 4 domain. Can you reprise the steps you took to get it working as I'm not sure if I have the full trail. I assume you have not had any problems since.

Arlesterc, open secpol.msc and go here to make the change.

You need to "Enable" that setting. (it should be disabled by default)
