Can vlite fix 4 gb vistal install bug?

Hi,

My motherboard requires that 2gb be removed or that I unplug two sticks of ram to install Vista 64 otherwise I get a blue screen. Then I have to intall kb929777 before SP1 for Vista to boot properly. Not only that my Abit IN9-32X board also requires certain raid drivers and other miniport driver to be installed before any updates or else I get a blue screen when Vista auto-update tries to configure the devices incorrectly. So I was wondering can use vlite to package my drivers, then kb929777, and then sp1?

I tried making a slipstreamed vista ultimate dvd with making a vista install partition, and going in to the sysprep utility, and installing kb929777, then sp1, then generalizing the partition and ran the imagex and other waik utilities to make an iso. Though the iso is somewhat larger than I expected - about 4gb - maybe vlite can do it even tighter?

kb929777 applies to WinPE. When you integrate the Sp1 with vLite only the install.wim is being updated, that's why it is always better to get a SP1 integrated ISO/DVD directly from MS.

KB929777 applies to winPE? You mean vLite applies that the winPE environment?

Right now I am making a vlite install. I manually added nvidia system drivers, and other component drivers, and kb929777 and processed the iso.

Then I copied the files from the iso to an new vista folder and reran vlite again this time slipstreaming sp1. It wouldn't let me do both at once integration and slipstream options at once.

Maybe I am missing something, but I would love to have a factory SP1 DVD from MS. I'll have to call them and see if I can order one. But I really care about the 4gb patch more than

anything because installing SP1 didn't solve that problem for me and I still got a blue screen on boot. I have to first install kb929777, then SP1 and not the other way around. Wish they

would fix that its real inconvenient pulling out memory...

this update must be applied to the boot.wim. There are several fixes for the WinPE environment which are included in Sp1. The Version of the WinPE inside Sp1 is now 2.1 because of the updates.

Ask a friend who has access to MSDN or Technet subscriptions to get an updated ISO with an integrated Sp1. And don't aks for the ISO here or you'll be warned or banned, sorry.

So how do I do that exactly? update the boot.wim?

Also I made my own Vista 64 SP1 ISO using the sysprep shift-ctlr-f3 procedure though vlite doesn't accept the files as being valid. Maybe its becuase I used waik to create the iso.

As far as attaining a sp1 iso I'll just call ms and hassle them....

because some fixes apply to WinPE, which is not being updates when you use vLite, MS doesn't offer the slipstreaming option inside the Sp1. vLite uses an unofficial hack to integrate the Sp1, so don't hassle MS about this. I'm sure you can find a Sp1 ISO somewhere inside the www

To update the boot.wim, mount it with imagex, run the pkgmgr.exe to integrate the hotfix into the mounted folder and commit and unmount the WIM again. For more details about this see the WAIK documentation.

Too late I already hassled MS about this, but I'll locate this ISO eventually. I think what your saying is that even if I patch the DVD with kb929777 with vlite, the dvd will fail to boot up like it allways does unless the memory is removed. Such that the boot.wim file needs to be patched for this to work.

Right now I'm trying to slipstream the SP1 but I don't think its working. Its been over 2 hrs and its still at 50 percent progress. So i guess I need that special iso, then I can use vlite to do the rest.

Just finished the sp1 slipstream. After this I'll try to patch the boot.wim file and use ultraiso to recreate the iso.

That should work right?

it is better to use vLite to create the ISO.

I'm trying to mount the boot.wim but there are two indexes inside the file. One for Vista WinPE and the other for Windows setup. I assume I mount the second one?

Well I got a hold of a sp1 iso and ran vlite on it and injected my drivers into it, and installed it on a partition and there was no BSOD! Awesome!

The only thing is that the installation stopped to ask for permission to install one of the drivers which slowed down the unattended idea...

But all in all it worked!

that's because of the updated boot.wim, so the BSOD won't happen again. great that it works now. have fun
