Mike87 Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 (edited) Ok, here is the background. I used nLite to integrate Service Pack 3, and all subsequent hotfixes (inc IE7 & WMP11) into my Windows XP Professional install CD, the idea being that I would have an up to date copy of Windows XP and wouldn't need to spend ages on Windows update after a system rebuild.Upon testing the cd, the initial files load fine, however when the system restarts to start the next portion of the setup, I recieve the following error message:lass.exe - not enough quotanot enough virtual memory or paging file quota is available to complete specified operationAt which point the system restarts.Any ideas as to what is wrong, or what I can do to fix it?The quote below shows the full list of hotfixes that I tried to integrate into the Windows XP installation CD. nLite was able to integrate most but errored on the .net frameworks. johnhc Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Mike87, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini and make sure you do not run nLite more than once against the same source and apply only one SP. What are you installing on - real machine or virtual machine? In either case what is the size of the HDD partition and memory? Enjoy, John.
Mike87 Posted December 24, 2008 Author Posted December 24, 2008 (edited) Unfortunatelly I can't attach my last session.ini as I wiped the machine I made the disk on to test. (Never actually thought to test it on a Virtual Machine first). The pasted list is not my last session.ini but rather the list of updates I downloaded and then used nLite to try and integrate.Full system specs are as follows:Motherboard Intel DX48BT2 Processor Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Video Card # 1 Sapphire Technology Radeon HD4870X2 2GB GDDR5 PCIE 2XDVI 700/900MHZMemory Corsair Memory 4GB (2X2GB KIT) DDR3 1333MHZ 240PIN DIMM - TW3X4G1333C9DHX Hard Drive # 1 Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB - in Raid 0Hard Drive # 2 Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB - in Raid 0Hard Drive # 3 Seagate Barracuda 7200.1 500GB - in Raid 1Hard Drive # 4 Seagate Barracuda 7200.1 500GB - in Raid 1Optical Drive # 1 LG Electronics Blu-Ray/HD DVD-ROM COMBO 16x DVDPower Supply OCZ Technology EliteXStream 800W Case Lian-Li PC-A7110B Sound Card Intel® High Definition Audio 8-channel (7.1) Dolby Home Theater Monitor iiyama (can't remember the model number)Operating Systems Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 (32 bit) Dual boot with Microsoft Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 (64 bit)Note the raid 0 Raptor drives are partitioned into two drives: 400GB C Drive, remaining 157 GB (I think, this is from memory) on D Drive.Seagate drives in raid 1 partitioned into one drive - Drive EI was attempting to install Windows XP Pro onto Drive D. johnhc Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Mike87, obviously you have plenty of resources. When you run nLite again (against a fresh copy of CD files/folders), if you still have a problem, attach your Last Session.ini. Is this a new machine? Did the BIOS find all your memory and drives? In my BIOS, if I press the Pause/Break key during boot, everything stops and I can read the screen. Any key gets it going again. The only suggestion at this time is to reduce the complexity of your build - only SP3, etc.... Good luck, John.
Mike87 Posted December 24, 2008 Author Posted December 24, 2008 Ok, I remade the disk in stages, firstly adding SP3, IE7, and WMP11. Tested on a VM and it worked. Then added all relevent hotfixes, and tested again on VM, worked fine. I'm leaving out the .net framework as I suspect that's what caused the error last time.At least it's working now, I'll just download the .net framework from windows update, it's still less hassle than downloading 40+ updates. Thanks for all the advice anyway, nLite is a brilliant tool
johnhc Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Mike87, I'm glad you are making progress. Of course, virtual systems don't test drivers, but they are great for the install process. Here is a link (about XP x64) where Kurt_Aust uses the RunOnce exit to install many programs, including .NET Framework. I don't know why he did not do it via a hot fix, but perhaps he found it did not work that way. He is very good about responding, if you would like to ask his opinion. Enjoy, John.
