Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 Upgrade path - Which is better?

I have a license for Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 Upgrade. It requires any one of the below for installing the upgrade pack:

Windows Vista (32-bit or 64-bit)

Business (N, K, KN) / NOTE: “N”, “K”, and “KN” are specialized editions available for certain markets

Business Blade PC Edition

Ultimate

Home Premium

Home Basic

Windows XP (32-bit or 64-bit)

XP Professional

XP Tablet PC Edition

XP Pro N

XP Pro Blade PC Edition

XP Home Edition

So I would like to buy the cheapest option, either Windows Vista Home Basic or Windows XP Home. The cheapest is Windows XP Home.

What I would like to know is will there be any advantage if I upgrade from Windows Vista Home Basic since it is the same family like better compatibility than upgrading from XP Home Basic? Has anyone tried upgrading from both before and noticed whether there are any issues after the upgrade? BTW, this is for a new PC.

Just install the upgrade without a product key and tell it during the install, that its the full version. Once you get that installed, run the upgrade from inside Windows. Use the product key this time and install your upgrade. Hope that helps.

I have the Vista Business upgrade and did it just like that^^^^
