desertfox050
hey,im running vista on my advent 7208 laptop, and i decided to upgrade my ram by 1GB(to 2GB). both chips match in speed, but vista does not recognise the ram chip ive just installed. at first, i thought it was a dodgy chip, but my friend advised me to install cpuz, which shows that the chip is there, and should work.does anyone have any idea as to what i can do to get vista to recognise it??thanks a lot,desertfox050

j03y
better yet. you should tell him to try using Vista's built in memory diagnostic teststart menu >> start search "memory diag"rest is self explanatory.run it and it will tell you if any of your system memory is corrupt. spacesurfer
how did you determine that vista doesn't recognize it? when your system does the POST test, does bios report 2 gb installed? if not, then you probably didn't install it properly. if it does, then right click my computer and check how much ram is reported.also, does your computer support 2 gb? if it's old, then maybe it only maxes out at 1 gb. x-Shadow-x
Sounds like you have some faulty RAM (or you didnt put it in rite). It wouldnt max out at 1gb, It has vista preinstalled on it. When your computer POST's, check and see it it shows 2gb (you may have to disable the splash screen).
