PC_LOAD_LETTER Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 ok this is starting to bother me. I just reset the time on my machine for the 3rd time in 3 days. at 9:17PM tonite (just a few minutes ago) i looked down and the windows clock says 1:17PMthe minute time was accurate just like yesterday and the day before but yesterday it flipped to 1:XX AM sometime in the afternoon (4 or 5 PM i forget exactly) and i just vaguely recall resetting it monday. The power supply failed sunday night and i replaced it monday and cleared the BIOS when troubleshooting that issue. so the clock being wrong on monday i can deal with but the last 2 changes i cant explain.this machine has been up the entire time so its not a battery issuesnips from systeminfo:OS Name: Microsoftr Windows VistaT BusinessOS Version: 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001OS Manufacturer: Microsoft CorporationOS Configuration: Standalone WorkstationOS Build Type: Multiprocessor Free--Original Install Date: 12/5/2007, 7:30:59 PMSystem Boot Time: 11/24/2008, 7:46:04 PM--System Locale: en-us;English (United States)Input Locale: en-us;English (United States)Time Zone: (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada)time server is set to time-a.nist.gov
cluberti Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 First thing to do is check the BIOS clock - if it's not at least mostly accurate, it will cause skew. Second, I would suggest using a less busy time server, like one from pool.ntp.org. Also, consider the net time /setsntp command to set (not the UI):net time /setsntp:"0.pool.ntp.org 1.pool.ntp.org 2.pool.ntp.org"You can also use the UI to change the time source, for example using 2.pool.ntp.org (make sure to update time before clicking "OK").If you're sure the BIOS time is correct, and you're using a non-NIST or non-Windows.com time service, and it still skews, perhaps it can be tracked down via debugging the time service (it is possible).
PC_LOAD_LETTER Posted November 27, 2008 Author Posted November 27, 2008 i havent checked the BIOS time (havent rebooted) but if it does it again ill check it.i changed my time servers as you recommended and ill let you know if it gets screwy again.
