XP SP3 install problems

Recommended Posts

after many an hour fiddling with things, i finally got through the entire process without error and made me an ISO of my install. i wanted to test the thing in a virtual machine before i tried to use it proper, and after a while i noticed an odd behavior. this install process has been running for a little over an hour now, and it seems that every time, after it completes installing network, it reboots and starts over at the installing devices.

if i skipped something, or removed something i shouldnt have please let me know.

here is the "last session" file if that helps you at all.

LAST_SESSION.INI

Windows XP Professional SP3 - 5.1.2600.5508??

Umm the final SP would look like so:

Windows XP Professional SP3 - 5.1.2600.5512

You for one have a beta SP.

Are you working on a already modified source?

its possible, but if it is, i was unaware of it. downloading proper SP3 for slipstream to see if that helps.

well, slipstreaming the full SP3 in did not fix my problem. i'll put in the latest ini file, but nothing changed other than slipstreaming in SP3.

rokenford, I can't see it in your LastSession.ini, but if you disabled "Press any key...." in nLite Options, these are the symptoms you would see. Enjoy, John.

i didnt. the only thing i changed on that tab was "delete duplicate files."

source was a student edition of XP Pro.

i have another copy of xp floating around. i'll give that one a go and see what happens.

rokenford, I don't know what might be different about student version. Does your virtual system ask the "Press any key....' question when you boot the CD? If not perhaps that is how they are blocking students from installing it on multiple systems. What virtual system are you using (to repeat Kels question)?

Enjoy, John.

rokenford,

Kels asked you

Are you working on a already modified source?
and I think your reply was "it's possible". If this really happened, that could be the problem. Your VM parameters look great. Perhaps you could post a screen shot of your original CD files (Windows Explorer view).

Enjoy, John.
