Hamhock43 Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 Sorry if I am not posting this properly.I just bought a Hp a6512p from Frys. They told me it could be downgraded to XP no problem. I did some reading and every other post said you could and couldn't. I called HP they said it Might be able to e done but they couldn’t help......The system came with Vista and I might be willing to give it a try but the reason I bought the Computer was for a new tower for work. I was told that Vista will not work with the office network.I went in the BIOS turned the SATA from RAID to IDE. Put the XP disk in run the start up had XP load with out any issue. There were several drivers missing I had downloaded the drivers that were to be needed on a flash drive and started to add them one at a time. Restarting my computer after loading each of themAudio :ftp://152.104.238.19/pc/audio/WDM_R200.exeNetwork :ftp://202.65.194.211/cn/nic/Driver_5706_XP_1020.zipChipset :http://downloadmirror.intel.com/1602...inst_autol.exeModem Driver:http://www.conexant.com/support/files/HSFp_WinXP.zipI am still showing a VGA video controller is not installed. am I missing something or was the load order incorrect?I would have no problem reloading it all if it’s incorrect or do I just need another driver. I thank you for your help in advance
PC_LOAD_LETTER Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I was told that Vista will not work with the office network.OK first thing, Im calling BS on whoever told you that. unless your running some VERY ancient software on your XP systems, itll run fine on Vista.secondly,I just bought a Hp a6512p from Frys. They told me it could be downgraded to XP no problem.show of hands, how many people have talked to a Frys employee that you thought was competent? <crickets>short version is he lied to you. I'm not saying it wont run XP, I'm just saying he didnt have a clue so he lied and told you what you wanted to hear. With that out of the way, you need to figure out what type of video card the machine has. HPs website says the onboard video is an Intel G33http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Des...al〈=engif that doesnt work this is a tutorial that will let everyone here see what hardware you actually have so we can find the drivers easier.http://www.msfn.org/board/compiled-FAQ-and...974#entry785974
Hamhock43 Posted November 17, 2008 Author Posted November 17, 2008 THANK YOU......YOU ROCK I just got into my office loaded the Intel driver you provided and it took care of the issue. I just did something that HP said I my not be able to do. Unfortunately that means a Frys support guy might have been right. I guess he had a 50:50 chance….Thank you again for your help. I have successfully taken a HP a 6512p from Vista to XP downgrade with out any visible issues at the moment.
PC_LOAD_LETTER Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 congrats. since you will probably never see any newer drivers for Xp for your machine, you might want to pickup something like http://www.drivermax.com/ to update your drivers or try different versions if you have any problems
