How To Integrate New Updated Drivers

Recommended Posts

How do I integrate new updated drivers into an installation. I have already integrated previous versions and went

thru the various customization steps. I created an ISO and ran the install CD which worked great. Now there are

several of the drivers that have been updated and I would like to upgrade the installation folder with them and create an new ISO etc.

I did notice one minor issue when installing the system, but it was easy to correct. I set Windows Update to just Notify when updates are available and it seemed to ignore the setting. Has anyone else had that issue and if so, is there any fix available?

GoodGuy98,

You basically start over to update a driver. You should never run nLite on a source that has been nLited before. If you are only updating a couple of drivers on a running system, then remove them through Add/Remove, reboot and install the new ones. You might want to run Driver Cleaner (Google) also.

I have Automatic Updates set to 'Notify before download' and have seen no problems. My LastSession.ini has 'AutoUpdates = 3' in it - check yours.

Enjoy, John.

Thank you for the reply John.

I checked my LAST SESSION.INI and it contained the following entry:

AutoUpdates = 3

I am thinking I might have misunderstood how to use nLite properly. Basically I executed the procedure

in several steps. When I added drivers, I installed a couple in one run and several other in another run.

I followed the same procedure in including hotfixes and addons etc. Your reply pointed me to the

LAST SESSION.INI contents and it looks like parts aren't accumulated across runs. I checked several

versions of the .ini file and noticed the hotfix entries aren't added on. Each run replaces the prior contents,

so my method probably isn't the correct way.

I was hoping to find a way to avoid all the time spent chosing options, tweaks and unattended values. When I

looked for documentation, I saw basic stuff but couldn't locate anything explaining how to use LAST SESSION.INI

to make life easier. Can you recommend anything for further reading?

Thanks Again.

GoodGuy98,

I think nLiteing the same source more than once is a common mistake and I agree with you that the documentation is lacking. I guess that is one price we pay for free SW. Here is a post about a walkthrough. I have not spent any time there but it has many screen shots.

Basically you should do every thing in one nLite session using a fresh source.

Enjoy, John.
