Repairing and/or reinstalling XPpro on a laptop hard drive connected v

My brother received a non-functional tablet PC, Toshiba M200, from a friend. There's an error or corruption or something in the ntoskrnl.exe file. I've tried replacing it via USB housing from my laptop, but this doesn't seem to do anything. Is there an easy solution? Can I install a new copy of WinXP via usb from my Vista Laptop to this hard drive?

usually all you need to do is run a chkdsk with repair to fix this issue. create a bootable usb drive you can run chkdsk from and try a repair.
