Driver Integration Problem

Recommended Posts

Wanted to create a disc with XP SP3 with AHCI drivers. However after a couple of attempts I've got a problem.

When I boot with the disc it loads the driver, but I am taken straight to a screen where it (correctly) identifies the partitions. What it doesn't do is recognize that one of the partitions holds an existing installation of windows, so a repair install would not be possible.

My last attempt only integrated SP3 and the AHCI drivers; there were no other changes. The base disc was XP SP1a OEM. nLite version 1.4.9.

Thanks.

Not a common problem then?

Let me put it another way: have users integrated AHCI drivers ok? Ok being when booting from it, you get the 'Welcome to Setup' screen where you can press ENTER, R or F3, and after that and the Licensing Agreement screen you get a screen that identifies the installation correctly.

Thanks.

DerekBaker,

Your question puzzles me. Why would a partition with a valid Windows installation not allow a Repair? Seems like this is exactly when a Repair is appropriate. However, whether the Repair option would appear is dependent on what you specified in the Unattended section. Please attach (not paste) your LastSession.ini so we can take a look at it. Have you nLited a source that has been nLited before? You must always use a fresh source that has not been nLited before. Have you tried your ISO on a virtual system? You might want to look into VirtualPC or VirtualBox to test your ISO before you go to hardware. Note that your driver install will not be tested. I am not familiar with the term AHCI. Google tells me it refers to SATA connection. Have you properly enabled the option in your BIOS?

Enjoy, John.

Thanks for the reply.

Just made another disc (XP SP3 with AHCI) and now it works. :thumbup

You say 'whether the Repair option would appear is dependent on what you specified in the Unattended section.'

How so?

DerekBaker,

Go into The Unattended section and click the question mark next to the Unattended pull down list. Basically you can only see the Repair option if you don't do a completely silent/automatic install (my interpretation).

Enjoy, John.
