Changing Version Numbers

I have benn following these topics and can't determine if these methods is the solution.

And if this is the best method why hasn't any one successfully installed the latest directX

Or the latest FF3 without KernelXp from Xeno86.This just an example and hope someone

will be able to come with a solution.
