upgrading from Windows 2000 Active Directory

Featured Replies

We have Windows Active Directory running on 3 Windows 2000 servers DCs. Can we upgrade straight to 2008 AD? Or must we migrate to 2003 first and then to 2008?

Thanks,

-John

2008 Server can be added to a 2000 Forest or Domain, once you have updated ALL your DC's you could migrate to a 2003 domain and forest (no reason to go to 2008 yet (at least at the forest level)

From what I've been reading and the work I've been doing in a lab environment. I have introduced Win 2008 DCs into a W2K AD Forest fairly straight forward. However, if you have exchange 2000 as well, this is the big issue. There are hurdles to jump in this case. Which I would like to ask, if anyone has gone from Windows 2000 and Exchange 2000 to Windows 2008 and Exchange 2007. The question I have because of the issues with 2008 DCs not being found or recognized when trying to prepare the schema for Exch 2007 is if one is better off introducing W2K3 DCs first and then doing inplace upgrades to 2008 if that is even possible?
