Hello

This is my first time posting. The problem i am have is this. When i close a folder that is on a network drive my computer locks up. The drive is still connected but i just closed the folder. I have to start task manager and end task on (explorer.exe). The next step is to restart ( explorer.exe) and the computer works fine. This happens about 10 or 12 times a day. It is a real pain. Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Download process explorer and look at explorer.exe's thread stack if you really believe that explorer is causing the problem. That way you may be able to see what is going on. Look for any Dlls called that dont look like system Dll's and maybe you can track it down.

Otherwise boot into safe mode and see if it still occurs.

EDIT: Thinking about this you may be better off using process monitor and doing a capture and reproducing the problem, maybe explorer is looking for something that doesnt exist and is therefore hanging and crashing?

let us know what happens :)

Thanks

Just to let you know things like this can be caused by all sorts of things.

F.ex tweaking Win32KPrioritySeparation can cause system freezes, when copying large files, but otherwise system is working fine.

Hello Downloaded process explorer and don't see anything i don't know what it is. Also when i shut down Explorer is a problem and it shows a error screen and ask if i what to wait for it to shut down or close now. Most of the time it closes on it's own. I am not sure whats going on but it is a pain.

Like i said in my first post it happens when i close a folder that is on a network drive. I can move the mouse around and start task manger but not anything else. It happens when i close the drive anytime even when i do not transfer any files or do any work on that drive or folder. (just open the folder and close) It don't happen when i am doing work in the drive only when i close the folder. I have to end task for Explorer and start it back up and everything is ok. The problem with explorer not responding when i log off only happens 1 or 2 time a month.

Not sure what else to do.

explorer.exe hanging as such after opening a network drive would seem to indicate waiting on an LSP perhaps, or something else underneath in the IP stack. Getting a application hang dump of explorer.exe as soon as it hangs like this would be beneficial to see if it is indeed waiting, or if it's really actually hung up.
