ggodwin Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Currently when I download an Excel file from a webpage it opens it in IE. I want it to open in Excel.I have already confirmed that Excel will open all files that have the file type .xlsBy default the WIndows has the "Browse in Same Window" box checked I am wanting to Uncheck this box in Vista. In XP we can go to Tools»Folder options»File Type»XLS»advancedand select check boxes for these properties»Confirm after download»Always show extention»Browse in same windowI am trying to find these same properties in Vista.Does anyone know where I can find this?
x-Shadow-x Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Rite click on the xls file and to to the general yab (if your not already there). Where it says "opens with" click "change..."Browse to the Excel directory, click on the Excel executable (Excel.exe maybe?) open it. Then click apply then ok. Now all xls files should open in Excel.
ggodwin Posted July 25, 2008 Author Posted July 25, 2008 I did it and it still downloads the file in Internet Explorer. It seems to have all the functions but it is causing me problems with my VBA. I think I need to change the Registry.
x-Shadow-x Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 Im alittle confised rite now. What do you want to do? If you want to downlaod a file NOT IE then you need another browser (or a download manager).
ggodwin Posted July 25, 2008 Author Posted July 25, 2008 I have a task that I do daily for work where I must download data from a customers web portal. Over one year ago I created VB code inside an Excel Module to log into the site, navigate to the data, download the data (Excel) and do a couple other items. Now I am trying to transfere the Host Excel file from an XP IE 6 machine to a Vista IE7 machine. One of the functions on on XP is that one could Navigate to the file properties folder and select a check box "Browse in same window"This meant if the box was checked windows would allow the user to browse with in the same window that was active. In this case the Excel file could be opened and used with IE. Instead of creating a new window for the Excel file. In my case, I need the Excel file to open in a new Excel Window rather than inside IE.MS has removed this toggle on Vista. (From what I can tell) If I navigate with my windows Explorer to an Excel file it open in Excel with no problem.
