I saw a web site with someone claiming Windows XP keeps rebooting after installing Service Pack 3 with an AMD processor. (I assume, because I didn't see the person talk about the chipset)

And the person claimed there's a patch for that problem from Microsoft, but not official.

Now, I may not be able to use Service Pack 3 with my Asus A7N8X-X and Athlon XP 3000+.

But, it's fine with a T-Bird 1.4 and Asus A7N266-VM/AA.

I installed service pack 3 for the first time yesterday, on July 2, 2008.

I would like to know if the generation of AMD has something to do with it.

It will suck if Windows XP gives that BSOD with a Barton. Thus, reminding me of a buggy motherboard. LOL.

Actually I think we are thinking 2 different things.

The bug only appears when upgrading a system that already running to SP3.

A SP3 integrated disk does not have this error.

The problem isn't really a SP3 problem per se, it's an issue with some images made by companies like HP, that were deployed on AMD boxes, and that had some intel driver in it, which became active wen you installed SP3 or such. I don't recall precisely.

But most people installing on AMD boxes had no issues whatsoever (myself included).

I do believe what crahak has stated is where the problem lies at with the companies like HP, Dell etc. I have been running SP3 on 2 test machines and have not had a single BSOD.

The machines are

1. AMD Athlon XP 1800 with NF7 MB.

2. AMD Athlon XP 3200 with a AN7 MB.
