mogster Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 (edited) Okay, so I have a Creative Zen MP3 player, whilst it syncs fine with Vista, it doesn't sync album-art unless you do so via the Creative software. Now the Creative software requires Windows Media Player to be installed, and your device to be connected. And you see, I removed Windows Media Player using vLite since I think it's a pile of shat...So I read up on how to install Windows Media Player 10 on Vista, since there was nothing on re-installing 11 since it already comes with. All went fine, I booted back in, and went to install my Creative software... then it asked me to connect my player =/Normally it'd just pop-up in My Computer, but now it seems the driver required for using MTP devices (which comes with WMP11) is now gone. So I googled for the driver, but the thing is, it's not accepting it... Now I need to work out a way of getting the WMP11 installer to run on Vista... If it can be done with 10, then surely a work around for 11 can be cooked up =DAnd no, I really can't be bothered recompiling Vista and doing a format. Edited June 28, 2008 by mogster
mogster Posted June 28, 2008 Author Posted June 28, 2008 (edited) Oh yay! I actually managed to figure out the MTP driver problem. The MTP drivers google turned up where doing jack all, I tried loads of different versions. So I randomly decided to extract the contents of the Windows Media Player 11 setup file and search for "MTP" and found wpdmtp.ini/wpdmtphw.ini, which I used to install the Creative Zen, and now it's letting me browse it through explorer like normal. So that's something. Now I just need to figure out this detection problem, the Creative installer won't let me continue unless the Creative Zen is attached (which it is), but it can't see the device (probably because it's showing up as 'MTP Device' under Device Manager) ... time to do a little research ^^*edit*Now I think it's more along the lines of having the appropriate wpdmtphw.inf/wpdmtp.inf file for my Creative Zen, that or my MTP support is phucked.
