I have a compaq presario 2500, which has enough horsepower for my daily tasks. But lately windows start to fail me and I need to do a format and reinstall.

The bad news is that the OEM/restore WinXP HOME cd is gone and not microsoft, ether HP will help me (microsoft says for the OEM licenses the corresponding companies are responsible and the company says the machine is toooo old and there are no WinXP recovery disks available)

Does anyone knows if I can use a different method, like making an unantedded cd with my serial?

or any other solution?
