troxo
Hello,A few days ago I decided to finally upgrade to windows xp sp3 and therefore make a new slipstream. I integrated the sp3 through nlite (into an original sp2 pre-integrated disc from the manufacturer) and removed my usual components (including all languages and keyboards - except the default which is hidden). Now, when I was going to install Truecrypt and use it for encrypting my whole entire drive, it told me that it was unable to set the keyboard layout to the default American (US) layout.Error: Cannot set the keyboard layout for TrueCrypt to the standard US keyboard layout.Note that the password needs to be typed in the pre-boot environment (before Windows starts) where non-US Windows keyboard layouts are not available. Therefore, the password must always be typed using the standard US keyboard layout. Now, I used to think that the default us keyboard layout was always included, since it is hidden in nlite?Anyway, what could possibly be the wrong thing - and what should I do in order to fix this? Thanks, troxoUpdate: I tried to install the exact same slipstream on my portable computer. It turned out that the English (USA) standard keyboard layout works just fine there. Though, I'm still unsure why...Update 2: I was able to find the kbdus.dll (in C:\Windows\System32) on both computers. I tried copying the one from the portable to the other but still no luck.Update 3: I did a completly new slipstream, still with my default options. Now, when I first booted up, after the installation finished - I found that I was able to enter the control panel -> regional settings and add the English (US) default keyboard and press 'ok', without any error showing up. Then, I installed my drivers, disabled services i don't need and did various tweaks (none of which I can remember affecting the keyboard layout in any way). When I installed Truecrypt again and tried the same thing, it showed up with the normal error. I checked the regional settings again - and now the English (US) default keyboard was gone - even though I manually added it the first time i booted up. If I try to add it again, it simply gives me the normal error, that it's not possible. Edited May 13, 2008 by troxo
