Festisio Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Evening folks,I am trying to remote in to my home PC (Running Vista Ultimate) from my work PC (XP SP2)I am actually the IT person in the company, as such I have a lot of admin rights, not quite yet Domain Admin account access, but that will come soonAnyhow, I am trying without much success to use the company XP machine to remote desktop into my home PC. It errors out saying it cannot make the connection. I suspect this is because we use a proxy for all web access, and I am guessing that port 3389 is blocked tothe outside world. Not sure really, networking is not really my forte.I've been reading up on this and people are talking about sshing, tunnelling and putty. This is mostly gobbledy gook to me and I was wondering, before I tried to delve further into this, whether this may be a solution for me?Has anyone any experience of using remote desktop through a proxy?I can use various web based remote tools ok, however they are not great so if possible I would love to be able to use remote desktop. Not a fan of VNC either although that seems to not work on Vista anyway. So, if there's any ssh/putty or just generally knowledgeable folk out there. then please advise. Thanks
DL. Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Have you tried checking out TeamViewer?I'm not quite sure if that's what you want, but it works without having to do lots of settings and is easy to use for remote support.
Festisio Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 (edited) Cheers, hadn't heard of that app but looks quite promising. I'll give it a go.Thanks Edited April 29, 2008 by Festisio
Festisio Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 Also LogMeIn.I'm not a fan of logmein, as it seems to send an entire bitmap for each refresh, very slow. it could very well be that the teamviewer app does similar however I had a look at the screenshots and it does appear somewhat slicker than logmein, I shall have to see when tomorrow comes.cheers
