My XP search is broken. It won't search outside of C:\Documents and Settings, unless I specifically specify a directory. Is there someway to fix this?

I am not using the Search Assistant (it is OFF); it uses the classic (2000) search instead.

Hey, man! (waves)

Open Regedit

Go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

You will see values for

IncludeSubFolders

SearchHidden

SearchSlowFiles

SearchSystemDirs

Set them all to 1. Then either restart Explorer or reboot the computer. (One hopes the reg settings will stay)

I changed SearchSlowFiles to 1, since the rest of them were already 1. Then I logged off and on. It still only searches Documents and Settings, plus a handful of other folders.

Example: I search WINNT (to see if it can find WINNT.BMP in the Windows directory):

Results:

Luckily I have Agent Ransack so this is only a minor issue.
