Is anyone here good with active directory? I am trying to figure out how to change the comment field on a domain... For instance if you navigate to your domain using Windows Explorer then you come up with a listing of computers. There is two fields, Names and Comments. Both can be edited using the domain controller and I think in Active Directory... Does anyone know where that is? The guy that used to do this isn't around anymore...

Thanks

the Names and Comments fields can both be populated in the active directory users and Computers tool, you don't have to go to the Domain Controller to do this the tool can be installed on your machine via the windows Server support tools. from there you can see the AD design for you domain and can search and edit machines to add comment information. the name information for machines is populated based on the machine name, this can be edited if you change the name of the machine.

I know this topic is a little old, but I haven't been able to try this until now...

Anyway I have the Support Tools installed and went to Active Directory Users and Computer... I can see all of the computers and the fields are Name Type and Description. Type can't be changed, description isn't what I'm looking for and name is the name of the computer, changing that isn't what I want either. I've looked high and low and can't seem to find how to change the way the name is ordered... By default when a new computer is added onto the network it uses the computer name when you look for it in network connections under the domain. However we have several computer where instead of the computer name the other IT guy somehow figured out how to put the name of the primary user, and then put the computer name in () or in the comments section.

Any ideas?
