AceCRO Posted February 29, 2008 Posted February 29, 2008 HiI am suddenly experiencing difficulties when I click on a Word document within Windows Explorer. Where as before as soon as I clicked a word document in Windows Explorer, it booted up Microsoft Word and opened the document within seconds, now it is taking a long time and every time goes through the same rigmorale. First the cursor will become an hourglass, then the title bar in the Windows Explorer will say "not responding", then Word will open with a blank window and then the documents will open. The whole process takes anything upto 5 minutes. Sometimes nothing will happen and I have to close Windows Explorer, sometimes Word will open but the document will not. If I open Word first and then open the document, then there is no problem whatsoever. Both the Word and the document will open within seconds. I have done a quite a few things after trawling the net including running sfc /scannow but nothing has brought any results.Any suggestions, advice would be appreciated. Many thanks....
puntoMX Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Your problem could be your overactive antivirus program. If you have an antivirus program running then turn that off to see how Word starts.
cluberti Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Well, when opening a Word document, consider running Process Monitor from sysinternals and see what exactly your box is doing during this time. That's definitely not normal behavior.
