Critical Updates for apps no longer in use?!

Featured Replies

I am slipstreaming Post SP2 updates for WXPMCE for a clean, up-to-date re-install.

I have notice that there are listed in the current Hotfixes Critical Updates and Security Updates for programs no longer in use. For example, I have installed on my PC Windows Media Player 11 but I am told that there are Security updates that need to be installed for WMP 6, 9 & 10 as well as Security Updates for IE6 when I have IE7.

In fact, my current configuration never had WMP 6 or 9 installed but Microsoft Update lists these as Critical Updates on my regular Automatic Updates and tells me I need to install them.

My question is, I don't really need these, do I, on my current OS or on the one I am updating? Particularly the new slipstreamed will have no parts of any of those older programs on it at all. Should this be a concern?
