Microsoft Windows Vista Updates I should install

Recommended Posts

Here is the situation... I recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate onto my new computer. I am not planning it to be connected to the Internet, just for personal use in home. I used to use Autopatcher for getting updates for it but MS took it down. :(

I don't really need any security fixes (who can hack the computer if it's not connected?) but I really need some reliability updates like KB938979 which really boosted up my system.

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

I'd hold off and wait for SP1 then - just download that when it's available and get all the updates it contains, plus the performance and stability improvements.

Thanks cluberti. I will hold off most updates until SP1 comes out.

I don't want to install everything as there is no need for me to install them (for example: why install firewall software if I am not planning to set a network on that computer) and also I have a 3GB max limit on my broadband every month.

One more question... Is there any must have updates that really improve system stability, performance? If there is I would download them for the MS website. When I installed KB938979, it's like 10-20 times faster which is a good thing (might not be in your system, but in mine it did)...
