February 6, 200818 yr Here is the situation... I recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate onto my new computer. I am not planning it to be connected to the Internet, just for personal use in home. I used to use Autopatcher for getting updates for it but MS took it down. I don't really need any security fixes (who can hack the computer if it's not connected?) but I really need some reliability updates like KB938979 which really boosted up my system. Thanks in advance for any help.
February 6, 200818 yr I'd hold off and wait for SP1 then - just download that when it's available and get all the updates it contains, plus the performance and stability improvements.
February 7, 200818 yr Author Thanks cluberti. I will hold off most updates until SP1 comes out.I don't want to install everything as there is no need for me to install them (for example: why install firewall software if I am not planning to set a network on that computer) and also I have a 3GB max limit on my broadband every month. One more question... Is there any must have updates that really improve system stability, performance? If there is I would download them for the MS website. When I installed KB938979, it's like 10-20 times faster which is a good thing (might not be in your system, but in mine it did)...
