I'm trying to play a game where the servers are in Boston and I live in Colorado. The problem is major lag and frequent d/c's it takes 26 pings to get there and makes a stop in Miami and comes back to Denver for some weird reason. The trace file is posted below for anyone who wants to look at it. Is there a way to take a different route to the server threw a proxy or other networking tool so the ping time is shorter and I stoped getting d/c all the time.

the route it takes is down to the OSPF of the connecting routers, apart from a proxy (possibly) as you say i can see no way around this

EDIT: unless it has to go through a certain point at your ISP for monitoring or something? do another trace to google.com or something and see if you can see any common places that they both pass through or post the trace here

No, you can't change your route. I recommend that you try connecting to a different server. Or if it is really important, perhaps try a different ISP.

3. Please do not post screenshots within threads that exceed 300x200 in resolution and 150kb in size. Provide a link to the image and host it on your own web space if possible. Always keep in mind we have several members on 56k and loading a thread with a few large screenshots can be quite slow for them.

The gist of it is that there are lots of different ways to choose the path and lots of different factors that affect the decision. From the ISP's perspective, contractual agreements and cost are more likely to impact the path than other factors such as the hop count to get you a good gaming ping.
