Slim down a Vista MCE install

Recommended Posts

Posted

I searched the forums but couldn't find a relevant topic.

Basically, i want to build a machine that will only run MCE.

What i have in mind is to only install the Media Center component and all of its requirements.

I will also try to integrate all the drivers to the install.

I have three questions though:

1. Should i upgrade to SP1 or is that useless for a MCE box?

2. Are there any other components really required?

3. Does any one have some tips for a MCE box?

Thanks in advance,

- Cascius

1. if you integrate critical hotfixes that will be enough

2. it will warn you, also it's recommended to use Recommended Compatibility

Thanks Nuhi,

I'm very please with the result. When first launched, Vista + Media center only use 300 megs of RAM, and loads pretty fast on my machine even though it's a bit old.

Thanks for making vLite, it makes a huge difference!
