How to skin and tweak IE ?

Please Note:

Some of these might not be available for WinXP Home Users.

Some of the tweaks can also be found in our Tweak Section.

As always if you choose to apply any of the below tweaks you are at your own (if it makes you feel better, I got them to work so I'm sure all of you ca do the same)

Using gpedit

01. Goto Start ::> Run ::> Type "gpedit.msc"

02. Select User Configuration ::> Windows Settings ::> Internet Explorer Maintnace ::> Browser User Interface

03. On your right you should see three componenets

a. Broswer Title

b. Custom Logo

c. Browser Toolbar customizations.

04. Select whichever component you wish to change

Using registry

01. Goto Start ::> Run ::> Type "regedit"

02. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain.

03. In right hand panel look for string "Window Title" and change its value to whatever custom text you want to see.

01. Goto Start ::> Run ::> Type "regedit"

02. Navigate to the following and change them as below. (google is probably the most popular one)

[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerMain]

"Search Page"="http://www.google.com"

"Search Bar"="http://www.google.com/ie"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerSearchURL]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftInternet ExplorerSearch]

"SearchAssistant"="http://www.google.com/ie"

03. If you have another engine you like more, then try Microsoft's site to figure out the values

Using uhh... whatver

01. Right click the Standard toolbar, and then click Customize

02. In the Text options list, click No text labels

03. In the Icon options list, click Small icons

04. In the Current toolbars list, click any icon that you want to remove

[b:d2e45af388]Gain more viewing space[/b:d2e45af388]

01. Right click the IE toolbar, and then uncheck "lock The Toolbars"

02. Try to fit the file/menu toolbar & the address toolbar & the icon toolbar into one line (note might not work for everyone depends on a few things)

01. Right click the IE toolbar and then click Customize.

02. In the Customize Toolbar dialog box, click Full Screen and Add

03. In full screen mode, right click the toolbar, select Auto-Hide.

Some other ideas that could be useful to some

01. Launch Internet Explorer.

02. Select Tools ::> Internet Options ::> General Tab ::>

03. In the address area, click the use blank button

01. if you have a mouse with a scroll button

02. hold down ctrl + use scroll button

There is a more technical way to change various things in internet explorer, but requires some knowledge of using a hex editor and being comfrotable with hacking one of your system files. I am reluctunt to provide such information, as the main reason I wrote these tutorials were to help the first timers[/size:d2e45af388]
