My friend, using word 2003, creates a .doc and sends as an attachment. It arrives with .doc extension, but the world symbol indicating htm. Explorer opens it, but there is much garbage, and no format for the text that does show. Happens others he sends to as well. Renaming file has no result. Word can't open the files most of the time. No help in knowledge base that I could find. At wits end.

open the document in notepad and paste the first few lines in here so we can diagnose. It could be the attachment is being sent wrong, it could be the extention is renamed...

There are lots of reasons why this can happen. It can also happen when you use certain webmail facilities, they exclud ethe extention so when you save it it saves as an corrupt file.
