Long wait time in WINPE boot through PXE

Hi,

I use RHEL 4 as DHCP (ISC DHCP 3.0.1) and TFTP (hpa tftp server 0.40) server to support PXE boot to WINPE 2.0 wim images. Everything works fine except one - need to wait for extra 16 seconds after the pxelinux menu is chosen & before boot manager menu appears.

By a ethereal session I found that after bootmgr.exe loaded, it tried 8 times sending a DHCP request package to port 4011 (PXE) of the DHCP/TFTP server.

These packets have same interval of 2 seconds. Of course server doesn't have a PXE daemon running so the responses are all "ICMP Destination Unreachable (Port Unreachable)" messages. Then it send request to TFTP server to load "/Boot/BCD" file - seems failed to load something then try a default configuration instead.

I tried to setup a PXE daemon on the same server but no luck, and can't find a document indicating the cause of such symptom. Wondering if somebody else has seen similar problem before...Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have just caught up and PXE load WinPe 2.0 and I too noticed this behaviour

I would like to remove this delay if anyone has any ideas.

Regards,

I have this issue also, just have it low on my list of things to fix.

From what little I've read on this, some people have found some things looking at TCP dumps and Linux logs.
