Stat1k Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 (edited) Hey, just a quick question. I tried searching for it, but to no end.Within my Windows XP Professional CD is a folder called 'DOTNETFX' - I've ran the binary file from it before (post-installation, of course... ;D) and it installs .NET 1.1. My question is...Can I delete it from my unattended CD without creating an error? Thanks in advance!PS When reading the unattended.txt reference manual that comes w/ the SP2 deployment tools, it describes the $OEM$ folder being 'within' the i386 folder. The MSFN unattended guide describes it as within the root of the CD. So I naturally assumed it must be within the i386 folder only during a network boot/install/deployment, correct? It's just been nagging me!PPS I am also curious of the root directy files. (ie WIN51, WIN51IP, and WIN51IP.SP2 - as well as the readme.htm and setupxp.htm) Are these required? Obviously, setup.exe and autorun.inf are, but are those others? And do I really need the .inf for a boot installation? I figure autorun.inf is only for a Windows environment, but I do believe the boot sector only calls for SETUP.EXE, correct? Thanks again! Edited December 23, 2007 by Stat1k
DarkShadows Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 (edited) You only need .Net Framework if you are actually going to install some software that requires it. You can safely delete all of this stuff:i386\WIN9XUPG ; 4 MB required only if upgrading from 95/98/98SE/ME.i386\WIN9XMIG ; 33 MB required only if upgrading from 95/98/98SE/ME.i386\WINNTUPG ; 1 MB required only if upgrading from NT.SUPPORT ; 148 MB from SP2 CD-ROM, not required. ; More technical savvy users may want these tools.VALUEADD ; 10 MB from XP and SP2 CD-ROM, not required. ; More technical savvy users may want these tools.DOTNETFX ; 39 MB .Net Framework 1.1, not required. ; Plan to slipstream this elsewhere, if required.I'm not sure on this, but I believe you are correct that in a server-based Windows installation, the $OEM$ folder is within the i386 folder. But from an XPCD, it belongs in the root of the CD/DVD-ROM.Leave the WIN51, WIN51IP, and WIN51IP.SP2 files alone, they help identify the version and service pack level of the XPCD. I typically leave the other files, they are so small, that they aren't really worth deleting. But to answer one of your questions autorun.inf is only used when you insert the CD with Windows installed and running. Edited December 23, 2007 by DarkShadows
