rmsdds52 Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Hi...You all have been so helpful in the past. New problem today...Hope SOMEONE can help as I am a bit panicked. When I click on my log-in name and my password, up comes the following message, and I can go no further:"EXPLORER.EXE-Bad Imagec:/Windows/system 32/BROWSEUI.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check against your installation diskette."I am desperate...Help??RickCincinnati
cluberti Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Can you boot and login in safe mode? If so, I'd suggest reinstalling the latest IE cumulative update (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939653) if you can, otherwise run sfc /scannow. If that doesn't work, or you can't even get in from safe mode, you'll have to do a repair installation.
Idontwantspam Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 (edited) Can you log on with the classic logon? At the logon prompt, try pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del twice, then type in your username and password; see if that works. It appears that there's something wrong with some of the files used to log on. Does the error message appear before you begin to even log in or after? Also, it mentions a specific file. I don't really know what that file does, but if you can find a working version on a different system and add it to a bartPE CD, you might be able to replace the bad file. rmsdds52 Posted December 12, 2007 Author Posted December 12, 2007 Well, I cannot log on from Safe Mode, so far.And I cannot log on from Classic.Still trying.More to come.It just takes so long to shut it down every time I try something. This is eating up a ton of time, but I can't give up.I am going to try the safe-mode log on again if I can ever shut the thing down.....RickCincinnati
nitroshift Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 I second Idontwantspam's idea of using WinPE or BartPE to replace the faulty file.
