janus zeal Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 (edited) I am trying to help someone over IRC install XP to get his laptop to run better. After he formatted and installed XP, it seems that HP doesn't have the drivers he needs. Is there any way to get vista drivers to work on this laptop? Edited December 10, 2007 by janus zeal
Kelsenellenelvian Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I am very sorry but Vista drivers just plain won't work on XP....
janus zeal Posted December 10, 2007 Author Posted December 10, 2007 (edited) I am very sorry but Vista drivers just plain won't work on XP....Well I have to say I saw that coming. For some reason HP shipped the machine without a restore disk of any kind either.Edit- I'm having him try Driver Magic. Edited December 10, 2007 by janus zeal
TheFlash428 Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I don't deal much with Compaq/HP, but often you can find the drivers on the manufacterer's web site. Of course, they may not have XP drivers if the system was only available with Vista.
janus zeal Posted December 10, 2007 Author Posted December 10, 2007 No, they used to have drivers for that hardware, but pulled them when vista came out. Also driver magic gives "device not in database" or whatever. I wonder if HP changed the internal id for the devices' chipset just so xp drivers wouldn't work? </conspiracy>
Ponch Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 (edited) For some reason HP shipped the machine without a restore disk of any kind either.Your friend was probably given the advice to burn a restore disk at the time he first booted the PC. He choosed to ignore this procedure. Maybe it would help if you tell what drivers are missing. nVidia has a web page to "automatically find drivers". Edited December 10, 2007 by Ponch
