Troubleshooting with msconfig etc.

My TV tuner function used to work fine but now something on my drive is preventing it from fully deploying. It will start to load and then freeze and I'll have to Ctl-Alt-Del to get control back again ! I've even uninstalled (with the removal tool!) and reinstalled the video drivers and tuner software and it still wouldn't work !

There has to be a way to find out what's causing this without having to wipe my drive and start from scratch ?? I even reloaded with my working backup from a month ago and after a coupla days, the tuner quit working again !

When I take another drive and load just XP and the minimal software, the tuner works fine so I know the hardware and accompanying software are fine ! Any ideas on how I can find the problem instead of whacking my drive and starting over ???

First configure the machine for a complete memory dump, then make the problem happen and dump the box. Compress and upload the dump somewhere we can access it, and perhaps we can tell you without having to flatten your box.

Ok, I'll do this and post back. Any suggestions on where I can dump the upload to for access ?

Anywhere that provides access - rapidshare is one that springs to mind, although a google search for free file hosting will give you a lot of other options.

Uninstall device

make sure it's not listed in device manager - if it is remove it, remove any unknown devices

delete infcache.1 from windows\inf

delete any oemXXX.inf files from windows\inf

Delete setupapi.log in windows

reinstall device/drivers

if it doesn't work post your setupapi.log

check for driver update with manufactor

Will doing this affect any other programs or operations on my computer ??
