miatre Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 So a new file server was created, data copied over and all good to go. I went to go install dfs but its not in the add remove windows components.I went to change the server role but under the file server option it wants me to uninstall the file server options. I installed a vm ware of the os I installed and the options are not there, either way to be installed. When I uninstalled the file server options under server role, it didnt allow me to install dfs like the ms document states.The doc from ms is hereSo... maybe i am doing something wrong here.. so..please help.thanks.-M
FAT64 Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Dfs is installed by default when you install Windows Server.Click Start>Programs>Administrative Tools>Distributed File System
chilifrei64 Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Windows 2003 does have DFS installed by default, however, that guide linked in the first post is for installing Windows 2003 R2 DFS which is entirely different than the built in version. Much more advanced than the built in. Is your Server R2?
