HP Scanners with Windows Vista

I'll try to make a long story short :

After buying a new PC with Windows Visa, I had to buy a new scanner from

HP. They assured me it was Vista compatible. However, when I received the

scanner (model G4010) I found the CD did NOT include Vista.

I went on their web site to download the software. The small download worked

fine but their extensive "Photosmart" software was too large for my "dial up"

connection so I asked them for a CD which they recommended on their web site.

Turns out they never had a CD with Vista !! They lied. I reported them to the Better

Business Bureau in California. Finally, after 3 months, they send me a CD with their

"Photosmart" software.

Guess what ? When I tried to load this CD I received the following error :

"The installer has insufficient priviledges to modify this file :

c:\windows\system32\flash\flash9b.ocx

I reported this error to HP support. What did their Indian Support Center tell me ?

"There must be an error on the CD, so download the Photosmart software".

CATCH 22 : I wanted the CD because I couldn't download "Photsmart". Their CD

has an error they tell me to download the software ???

So much with dealing with their Indian Support Center.

I put in a new Better Business Complaint. I'm so frustrated with this garbage.

Bottom Line : Anyone else having problems with HP Scanners and Vista ?

Any advice or help ??

No offense, but this sort of thing happens with HP products after every major Windows update. I can't tell you to buy from a vendor other than HP if you want decent driver support or updates that don't suck worse than the last version of driver or hardware, but I can strongly suggest it :hello:.
