I've got 2 computers, one running Vista and one running XP. If I use particular fonts in Word 2003, they appear different sizes on the XP machine against the Vista machine. For example Estrangelo Edessa font size 12 is about 20% bigger on Xp than on Vista.

Does anybody know why this is because it means that if I format a document on one, it is all out of line when I open it on the other???

Thanks in advance

As long as the font size is the same, it should not make a difference on the formatting.

The difference you probably see is most likely due to the zoom of the page you are viewing. Are you sure you are viewing both machines at the same zoom size - meaning, 100% or both or is one at 100% and the other at 120%?

Yep, it prints out differently rather than just how I'm viewing it on screen. For example, when I open the same document in XP, less lines fit to the screen (and paper when I print) than when I open in Vista. The best way I can describe it is that Vista thinks that Estrangelo 12 is smaller than XP does!

Hummm, I think the exact same font is not installed in both XP and Vista.

Copy all 4 Estrangelo fonts from XP (the regular, italic, bold, and bold italic). Then install it in Vista. Then try it again.

This makes me think... It must be a printer problem then, remember that not all printers drivers work flawless on Vista, I would try another printer if you can.

AHA!

Problem sorted. It seems that XP has Version 1.00 of Estrangelo and Vista has Version 5.00 and these are different sizes - therefore when Vista or XP call the font, it appears and prints in different sizes. Installing 1.00 on Vista sorts out the problem (need to do it this way as lots of the doc users are on XP). Let's hope there aren't too many other fonts that have changed sizes on Vista!

Thanks for the pointers everyone.
