RunAs other user error

Hi,

I am using 2K3. When I try to run any program as another user I get the following error:

An instance of the service is already running.

The secondary logon service is started. If I try to stop the service it fails to stop saying that it is stopping. I then have to re-boot the server to get the service to start again. I suspect the issue is with the secondary logon service. What I would like to know is can the service be repaired or re-installed? Has anyone come across this issue before? Any help is much appreciated.

what application are you trying to use with RunAs?

it happens when i try to run any application. as a test i have been trying too run notepad as administrator and as a standard user. The error was first noticed when trying to run a bespoke piece of software that runs initially as the logged on user, checks for a control and then re-launches the program as administrator.

What happens if you disable the service, reboot, and then re-enable and start the service? Can you stop and restart it then?
